We had the lovely band playing for us this week and some enterprising dancers, so we managed more dances than normal (and repeated a couple three times!)

Sunday dancing
Sunday 29 June 2014 is musician's day with the dance from 4:30-7pm at Lydham Village Hall, SY9 5HB led by Joe Hodgson - a mix of English and American dances.
Sunday 6 July 2014 the Alphabet Band are playing at the Mid Wales Arts Centre near Newtown from 2:30-5:30 with Paul Davis calling. Just £6 gets you in, dancing and a god look around the latest exhibition there.
The next music day in 2015 is on June 7th, with Ted Morse leading both the music and dancing. Ted does this on an annual basis near Oxford where he has had up to 100 musicians at one go! We will have a limit of 40 musicians so book early. The form can be found at http://www.lowerfarmholidays.co.uk/MUSIC DAY2015.docx
All profits from the music days go to charity - this year's charity is the Syria Crisis Appeal with the Red Cross

On June 15th Bellamonda are playing for circle dancing from 2:30 at the Mid Wales Arts Centre near Newtown.
June 29th is the playing in a band for dancing music day at Lydham VH - doors open at 09:30 with workshop starting at 10:00. Dance in the afternoon starts at 16:30. Cost is £25 for the whole day or £5 to dance - includes refreshments and meals.
July 6th the Alphabet Band will be playing at Mid Wales Arts Centre from 2:30 again for dancing with Paul calling.
Then it's summer and we meet again on September 12th

May Music Magic
On 2nd and 3rd May there is a load of music making in Bishops Castle. IN particular the Alphabet Band will be playing from 3-4pm on Saturday in the Methodist Hall and we'd like everyone to come along and dance.

Second annual music day 29th June 2014
After the resounding success of the 2013 music workshop for playing for dance we are now getting to grips with organising the next. Whilst out walking we bumped into Brian Stone who is a well known fiddler playing and leading groups such as Hoe Down, Junction 24, and Fiddlegang. He previously lived in the south-east but is now based in Church Stretton. Whilst mostly playing fiddle, Brian is also adept with guitar and double bass.
The focus of the day will be on playing an instrument within a folk dance band - getting started, finishing together, keeping a rhythym etc as well as enjoying a variety of different key signatures, tempos and repeat structures.
Brian will take you through playing for dancing as a group - with emphasis on Folk Dancing - culminating in you playing for a late afternoon tea dance. The whole day is from 10am to 7pm and to make it easier for people a baked potato with filling lunch, together with sandwich & cake tea as well as frequent drinks are all included in the price of £25.
Sheet music will be provided in advance, so please book by 13 June by sending your name, address, email and instrument details, together with a cheque for £25 made payable to P Davis to Music Day, Lower Farm, Shelve, SY5 0JF, Minsterley, Shropshire. We will be sending music out in advance via an email attachment in pdf format - if that will cause a problem let us know.

Joe has been calling for 45 years with a great wealth of experience from Barn Dancing, English Country Dance Manuals, American style and Playford English.
This promises to be a great day and places will be limited, so do book early - cut-off is 13 June for musicians so we can organise sufficient food :-)

Music workshop 2014
